Vision

The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.

Thucydides

Margaret Wheatley, in her groundbeaking book Leadership and the New Science: Discovering Disorder in a  Chaotic World, describes vision as “clarity about purpose and direction." I believe this is the best, and most simple, definition I have seen for a term used by nearly every organization today. Wheatley explains that vision is not a destination, but an influence, not a place but a power. By creating clarity about the organization’s purpose and the direction in which it is headed, I create the environment in which everyone behaves in such a manner as to move the organization toward that purpose.
